May 12, 2006PowerPhrase: You Have a Choice
In the fictional world of the TV show House, a controlling billionaire gave the hospital $100 million on the condition that he would be chairman of the board. As chairman he demanded everything to be exactly as he dictated. If someone dared challenge him, he used the board to vote them out, under threat of taking his donation away.
When Administrator Cutty refused to vote Dr. House off, the Chairman called a vote to remove her. As she left for the vote to take place, Cutty said,
If you think House should not be here, then, by all means, vote him out. If you think I should not be here, then vote me out. But if you’re voting us out due to fear, think carefully before you cast your vote. You have a choice. Make it carefully, because it might be the last one you have around here for a while.
The move to remove Cutty was overturned.
