June 20, 2006Pippi’s Proposed Name Change Update
Thanks to the hundreds (really) of you who weighed in on Pippi’s name. I got fabulous suggestions. I was ready to announce that Pippi was staying Pippi but I would add a new last name of Pangea and create a webpage explaining why. People like Pippi for the same reasons I do, and I like the definition Pangea as when all things come together. I think of Speaking Strong as everything coming together to formulate the words…a confluence of personal desires, emotions and thoughts blended with the universal perspective. I am considering coining the phrase Pangea Power to mean the kind of power that comes from that kind of balance.
There I was, thinking I had found the answer, and I got an email with a new great idea, persuasively argued.
Dear Ms Runion,
Isis, Pippi’s new name
Why.
1. I Say it Strong. ( ISIS)
2. Speak Strong Inc ( play on the initials ) 3. Isis was the Egyptian god blessed with the power over words. The Egyptians believed that if the best effect was to be produced by words of power they must be uttered in a certain tone of voice, and at a certain rate, and at a certain time of the day or night, with appropriate gestures or ceremonies
It also a beautiful name steeped in history , with mystique and offers tremendous opportunity to visualise.
My thoughts now are to rename Pippi Pippi Pangea but rename the award the Isis Award.
What do you think?

I think the name would be fine if written as I.S.I.S….call me superstitious, but I think every time you mention the name “Isis,” you are — in effect — calling to/evoking the memory of an ancient goddess.

I love this! Isis is beautiful, and pangea is where we all want to be!
I’m just reading your book “How to Use Power Phrases”. It’s wonderful. I can’t tell you how much your website has helped me, and all the times I’ve used it as a reference. I’ve had trouble speaking up for myself, saying what I mean and meaning what I say, but not being mean about it…and your “speaking strong” has helped enormously.
Hurrah for Pippi Pangea and the Isis Award!

I think ISIS is perfect………the power of words, the tone in which the words are spoken…. speak strong, speak well, with meaning, without being mean. ISIS rather than I.S.I.S. or Isis.

I think it would be nice as well, but do need to point out that Isis is the name of the supreme GODDESS of Egyptian beliefs, not the God. There are numerous attributes of this particular diety, of which the power over speech is but one. Also, as a long-time student of alternative religions, while I agree with Ron Pulliam that speaking the name is believed (by those who follow that belief system) to be evoking Isis, you also need to have that “intent” when it is done. Using the initials I.S.I.S. doesn’t make as much sense to me as using the name. I don’t believe naming the award the Isis Award would be a “supersititious” action but simply linking it to the numerous positive attributes of a diety associated with a place of magnificent cultural achievement, known throughout the world.

While I applaud the idea behind using the name ISIS, I have personal difficulty with renaming Pippi and promoting the name of what was once worshipped as a Goddess. I am a Christian and while I understand that you are not meaning to promote Isis or the old relgion, you still may offend people of different religions by using this name, whether you mean to or not.
Isis also used magic and I understand from the small research that I have done, that some modern witches either still use or base some of their magic upon the magic of Isis. Magic and witchcraft are offensive to Christianity and I believe to those of the Muslim faith.
May I encourage you to consider other alternatives.

I put a vote in on the last discussion but then, I too, was totally swayed to ISIS. That is perfect!

I dont agree with Isis because I have difficulty with evoking the name of an Egyptian goddess. I love the name Pagnea and the idea that it symbolises the coming together of emotion, thought and universal power.
