Listen to yourself - I love this recommendation. I use my journal to "dump" my brain first thing in the morning (credit to "The Artist's Way - Julia Cameron, I believe). I write for at least three full pages before my morning coffee -- anything that spills out. At the end of the month or so, I sometimes go back and read what I've dumped and am amazed at the words I use without thinking. Phrases like "torn between" are red flags. I find it much easier to "hear" myself if I am reading my own words.

I find that the truth is in the verbs!

Good point to remember. I sometimes call myself and ask questions and then when I listen I hear how I really sound to others. And even though I know I am just talking to me somehow I am a little unguarded and hear myself.
