September 14, 2006If I Hired You…
Yesterday a woman at my seminar told the tale of a rejection that left her feeling great about herself. The interviewer said,
- If I hired you, the sharks here would eat you alive.
The interviewee accepted the decision as a gift and a compliment. She saw it as a positive reflection on her that she was not considered the right kind of person for the aggressive, hostile environment. She was grateful to the interviewer for giving her the reason she did.

I once interviered for a position as a Manager but did not receive an offer. The recruiter told me that the hiring director had wanted someont to “kick butt and take names”. Since I believe in collaberation and teamwork, I knew I would have been right for the job but would not have pleased that particular director.

The hiring official was making devastating comment about his own environment. The devouring sharks are rarely doing company business. Not unlike the feeding frenzy when the sharks get so confused they ignore the prey and chow down on each other. I know this not very noble of me but, it is fun to watch.
