This reminds me of some state layoffs that were done a number of years ago. State employees in one agency were summoned to a meeting area and were told "If you don't hear your name called, you no longer have a job." Everyone held their breath hoping to hear their name called. Those who were left after the names had been called were simply told to clean out their desks and leave, with no further discussion. You can imagine how these people felt.
