<description>Having been a dance teacher myself many years ago, I used this trick. I used to simply stand at the front of the room and say nothing (and stop the music, as well). Eventually, students noticed the "silence" -- which spoke far louder than anything I could have said. All it took was a couple of times doing this for it to eventually become "habit" (the habit being that once the dance run-through was completed, they didn't congregate into micro-conversations and awaited further instruction from me).

Hope this helps!
