This news is from 1844 - but I heard it this week and was inspired.
Congress had a gag rule that prohibited debate about slavery. John Quincy Adams fought to make the abolition of slavery an acceptable topic by raising the issue almost daily for nine years. The gag rule was abolished in 1844.
Most gag rules are less formal than this one. What topics are off limits in your home, office or country?
