March 10, 2008PowerPhrase: Over a quarter million sold
A marketing coach commented on the fact that I say “over 250,000 copies sold” in one place in my website, and over 300,000 sold in another. She suggested I make it:
Over a quarter million copies sold.
Funny how that sounds like more than 300,000 copies – and it does!

or you could say – “Close to half a million copies sold…”
because if you round up…
and you won’t have to change it for awhile.

“Thou Shall Not Brag”

Great point Phyllis!
Pat, your comment brings up an interesting question. I start my all day seminars with a list of credentials because people like to know who they’re listening to, and if they know I’ve sold a lot of books, they’re more likely to respect what I say, which sure makes it easier to teach. But once someone wrote on an evaluation that I started the day by bragging. It was one comment out of thousands over the years, but I thought it was interesting that this person perceived it that way.
Is it bragging to present accomplishments in marketing material? Where is the line?

well – I wrote the comment a little tongue-in-cheek but just reading it straight does sound like I’m suggesting to brag! Ha! I think it is VERY important to toot your own horn in front of an audience new to you. Since I work on websites, I know what a bother it is to go and change things up all the time. So my suggestions was from that point of view – and because Meryl will eventually have those numbers.
fun stuff
