July 8, 2008Poison Phrase ~ Loretta resigned
It was obvious to everyone Loretta had her dream job. So when her company laid her off to save money, and told everyone,
- Loretta resigned
No one bought the story. The company lied because they didn’t want everyone else to worry about their jobs. The effort was counter-productive, because everyone knew Loretta would not have resigned. Now they also knew they worked for a company that lied.

Companies do not lie. People within the organization lie. Who is that person or group of people, or who is the person that dictated that the lie be told? People, even managers, within the organization should be held accountable for their actions. In this case an e-mail to or meeting with management may be in order.

For fifty years in corporate America and the federal government I have observed that “management” lies reflexively about anything and everything. Often when they do not need to do so. Almost everyone knows they are lying and no one trusts them. Then they whine about the lack of loyalty.

Larry - I LOVE your comment about how it’s the PEOPLE who lie. If we clean up our acts, the organizations will follow.

Was Loretta pressured to resign because she was told she
would be fired, perhaps for cause? It could be
that the organization is trying to avoid legal
action.
