December 24, 2008Poison Phrase ~ Should I sent you some samples to try?
Randy chatted with Cory about his latest product line, and asked,
- Should I send you some samples?
Cory agreed – but was stunned when the box arrived. Cory had expected small bottles of a few items but received large bottles of many items with a bill for $300.
While Cory should have asked for clarification, it was in Randy’s interest to protect the good-will by being clear up front.

What? Send a bill for “samples” to a potential customer who isn’t expecting it??? Quick way to kill a sale and end any chance at ever having a relationship with a customer. That tactic would not earn my business, referrals, or endorsement in any way shape or form. Feels to me like a slimy short minded trick from a bad salesperson.

What a lousy thing to do! A sample implies a FREE small part of
an item — I can think of all those coffee samples in Starbucks. Anyway, since there is no “order” I would think she
could return the bill with a “Thank you for the gift”.
