From Roger:
Meryl,
Considering one of the items in your recent newletter:
“You can pressure people into compliance, but you can’t pressure them into agreement.”
~ Meryl Runion
My position frequently puts me in a situation to offer advice or encouragement to those starting out as well as those more experienced.
Although I can claim no particular special insight, I’m sometimes asked what to do when a manager has a difficult time understanding why they seem to need to direct staff to get things accomplished.
I offer a brief phrase developed from my experience that may sound harsh but the leadership nuances I’ve found to be true more often than not:
You can command obedience but respect must be earned.
